WAIVER MEETINGS:
The Mississippi Department of Education is sponsoring Town Hall Meetings to receive input from a variety of stakeholders on the US Department of Education’s ESEA Flexibility Waiver. During each session, information about the waiver requirements will be shared, followed by an opportunity for stakeholders to offer feedback and have input on the various aspects of the waiver request.
The waiver offers each state the opportunity to request flexibility from some of the current NCLB requirements on behalf of the state, districts, and schools. States would only be granted flexibility in exchange for rigorous and comprehensive state-developed plans designed to improve educational outcomes for all students, close achievement gaps, increase equity, and improve the quality of instruction.
Two types of stakeholder Town Hall sessions will occur. Theafternoon session will be targeted to educators and school board members, while the evening session is intended to give parents, community organizations, business leaders, and other interested parties an opportunity to provide input on the components of the waiver request.
