
2011-12 was an amazing year for the HHS Forensics Team!! HHS, for the second time in three years, landed a team in the final round of a Main Event: Aaron Watson and Treya Brown, Duo Interpretation. Additionally, for the first time in the history of Mississippi Forensics, a Mississippi school was awarded the National School of Excellence Award in Speech. Only thirteen schools in the nation received the award. Director Scott Waldrop also received the Double Diamond award from the NFL which is presented to coaches that attain a certain level of coaching points and years of service.
Also, 100% of Forensics Team Seniors graduated and are enrolled to attend institutions of higher learning. Six students received full scholarships for Speech, Debate, and Theatre. Two Presidential Scholars-Shows (Gustavus Adolphus College, Russell-Tennessee State University).

1st Place Team Sweepstakes at Dallas Metroplex Tournament, and 1st Place Overall Student Performer-Deondrey Russell, (Presidential Scholar, to attend Tennessee State University).
Finalists, Duo Interpretation (3rd Place) and Dramatic Interpretation (2nd Place), Emory University, Barkley Forum for High Schools
Finalists, Dramatic Interpretation (3rd Place) and Original Oratory (6th Place), Harvard University-(FIRST TIME MISSISSIPPI HAS HAD TWO FINALISTS IN SAME YEAR AT HARVARD. HHS ONLY SCHOOL TO EVER HAVE
FINALISTS AT HARVARD. FIRST FINALIST IN ORIGINAL ORATORY FROM MISSISSIPPI. HATTIESBURG HS HAS HAD 6 FINALISTS IN THE LAST 5 YEARS AT HARVARD.
Host, 26th Hub City Classic, Hattiesburg HS National Speech and Debate Invitational-Record number of out of state schools attended, (8), TEXAS, LOUISIANA, ALABAMA, SOUTH CAROLINA, NEBRASKA, CALIFORNIA, GEORGIA, MISSISSIPPI. Mayor Dupree and Congressmen Percy Watson attended and judged events! Largest academic event in Mississippi!!
Host, Mississippi High School Activities Association State Championships, Speech and Debate-Hattiesburg WINS State Championship and Overall Student award.
HHS Forensics stages A RAISIN IN THE SUN, Playhouse, Hattiesburg HS.
National Invidual Events Tournament of Champions, Union City, California, SWEEPSTAKES FINALIST, 2nd Place. HHS takes 2nd Place in Original Oratory, Dramatic Interpretation, and Duo Interpretation.
National Catholic Forensic League Championships, Baltimore, Maryland, HHS Forensics lands students in top twelve in Dramatic Interpretation and Duo Interpretation.
