It was a great weekend for Hattiesburg HS activities. The football team beat Oak Grove and the forensics team continued their winning ways by claiming 1st place at the 2011 Petal HS Fall Invitational. Oak Grove HS finished 2nd followed by Pascagoula HS in 3rd respectively. HHS Forensics improved to 5-0 with the victory and now prepares for national competitions beginning in December.
Many students had strong showings in a variety of events, as you can see from the photo of the trophies won by HHS. HHS was led by Paris McClendon and Elizabeth Shows who won 1st place in Duo Interpretation. McClendon also took 1st place in Original Oratory for the fifth time this year while Shows took 1st place in Lincoln-Douglas Debate. First year student Cailin Coleman claimed top Novice honors sweeping Novice Oral Interpretation and Novice Dramatic Interpretation. Parker Krag led the Congressional Debaters by winning 1st place in the House of Representatives which was presided by Chancellor Strange. Robert Green presided in the Senate where he and Jonas Johnson finished in the top 6.
Freshman Millicent Krebs won top honors in Declamation becoming the first student to receive six first place votes over the course of a tournament this year. Ms. Krebs never received lower than a first place ranking at the Petal HS tournament.
HHS had multiple finalists in all events widening the gap between Tiger Forensics and the other 21 competing schools.
