HPS Alumni Spotlight: Delores McNair

Delores McNair is Assistant Dean of Students at The University of Southern Mississippi. A Hattiesburg native, she is a proud member of the Hattiesburg High School's class of 1988. McNair holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology and a Master of Science degree in Child and Family Studies from The University of Southern Mississippi. She is currently pursuing her doctorate in Higher Education at Southern Miss. 
 
In 2017, McNair began a five-year mayoral appointment to the Board of Trustees for the Hattiesburg Public School. She was reappointed in 2022 and is in her fifth term as president. She also serves as secretary for the Board of Directors for the Mississippi School Boards Association. McNair describes her most notable accomplishments as her service to others through her Faith, Family, and Friends. 

She is a dedicated member of Sweet Pilgrim Baptist Church where she serves as Director of Communications. She is active in community service, both on and office campus. McNair has served as a member of the USM staff council; past president of the USM Association of Office Professionals; member of the campus task force for the Mississippi Coalition Against Sexual Assault; a steering committee member for the Pine Burr Council of Boy Scouts, and is currently serving as Vice President of the Board of Directors for the Shafer Center for Crisis Intervention.

Her honors include the Student Affairs’ Peter Durkee Superstar award, a recipient of the Mu Xi Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity’s Peggy Jean Connor Heart of Hattiesburg award, Mu Gamma Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Community Service award, USM Graduate School Hall of Fame 2020 inductee and Woman of Excellence recipient. Her proudest titles are the only daughter of the late Benjamin and Rebecca McNair, sister to five older brothers, mother of three, and grandmother of two.
