Alumni Spotlight: HPS Recognizes Dr. LaShonda Short

Dr. LaShonda Short currently serves as Assistant Principal at Hattiesburg High School. She has 18 years of educational experience.

Dr. Short has served in several roles in the Hattiesburg Public School: teacher, track coach, behavioral specialist, counselor, and assistant principal. 

“As a third-generation educator in Hattiesburg Public Schools, I am sincerely honored and humbled to serve as an educator following in the footsteps of Mildred Short (mother) and Willie B. Miller (grandmother). It is with great pride that I walk in the path of the legacy these ladies set forth for me to follow,” recalled Dr. Short. 

Short is a graduate of Hattiesburg High School class of 1998. She graduated from The Jackson State University with a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Social Worker in 2002. She also earned a Master's in Social Worker at The University of Southern Mississippi in 2007. Short earned her Specialist degree and doctorate from William Carey University in Educational Leadership. Short is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.  

“I am grateful to have the opportunity to serve as a leader at Hattiesburg High School. It is my goal to make a positive impact on all students, parents, and the community of Hattiesburg,” shared Short.
