On Sunday, January 26th at 2 pm, Thames elementary students were recognized at a reception inside of the University Baptist Church’s Downey Gallery Exhibit. The exhibit ran from January 15th to January 26th for the community and students to view.
One of the University Baptist Church pastors, Brett Harris, said, “It's always important to celebrate what children and students are doing to celebrate creativity.”
“To really highlight the ways that we can share the gifts that we have with the world and give kids the opportunity to showcase their art,” said Harris.
According to Hattiesburg art teacher, Diane Ellzey the gallery included at least 50 student masterpieces with at least 40 students that participated.
This year Hattiesburg Public School District adopted 7 Habits of Highly Effective People:
- Sharpen the saw. Don't work yourself to death.
- Be proactive.
- Begin with an end in mind.
- Put first things first.
- Think win-win.
- Seek first to understand, then to be understood.
Three of the seven habits were presented inside the art exhibit on Sunday afternoon.
“We are excited to use it to celebrate artists within the community regardless of their age.
To share it and showcase the creativity of folks in our community,” said Brett Harris.
