Dr. LaShonda Short currently serves as the Director of Exceptional Children and Health Services at Hattiesburg Public Schools.
Short joins the list of alumni who are Burg Built, and she has given back to Hattiesburg through her two decades of educational experience.
Dr. Short has served in several roles in Hattiesburg Public Schools: teacher, track coach, behavioral specialist, counselor, and assistant principal.
“As a third-generation educator in Hattiesburg Public Schools, I am sincerely honored and humbled to serve as an educator following in the footsteps of Mildred Short (mother) and Willie B. Miller (grandmother). It is with great pride that I walk in the path of the legacy these ladies set forth for me to follow,” recalled Dr. Short.
Short is a graduate of Hattiesburg High School class of 1998. She graduated from Thee Jackson State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Social Worker in 2002. She also earned a Master's in Social Work at The University of Southern Mississippi in 2007. Short earned her Specialist degree and doctorate from William Carey University in Educational Leadership. Short is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
“I am grateful to have the opportunity to serve as a leader in Hattiesburg Public Schools. It is my goal to make a positive impact on all students, parents, and the community of Hattiesburg,” shared Short.
